ISLAMIC, Seljuks. Rum. Ghiyath al-Din Kay Khusraw II, first reign, AH 634-644 / AD 1237-1246. Dirham (Silver, 24 mm, 3.02 g, 3 h), Qunya (Konya), 642 AH = 1244/5 AD. The Basmala, the Kalima and the name of the Abbasid caliph Al-Musta 'sim bi' Allah, all within dotted square. Rev. Legend within dotted square bearing the honorific title of Kay Khusraw as the Shadow of God on Earth and the Caliphal title as the Companion of the Commander of the Faithful. Broome 250. This type was struck after Kay Khusraw was defeated by the Mongols at the famous battle of Köse Dağ on 26 June 1243, which led to the subjugation of the Seljuk state by the Mongols. Kay Khusraw kept his throne, but he had to pay an annual tribute to his new overlords
